Why Waterproofing Comes First

The single most important part of a shower tile installation is not the tile itself. It is what happens before the tile goes up. In a shower enclosure, water vapor and direct water contact will reach the wall substrate every single day. Without a properly installed waterproofing membrane, that moisture eventually reaches the framing, the drywall, or the subfloor. By the time damage is visible, it is usually significant.

We use sheet membranes and foam backer board systems designed for wet areas. The membrane is installed before any tile is set, corners and seams are treated with fabric tape and additional membrane, and the system is allowed to cure before tile goes up. This is not a shortcut-friendly step.

Shower pans are sloped toward the drain at a minimum of 1/4 inch per foot. For mud-bed pans, the slope is built into the mortar bed itself. Pre-sloped foam pan systems are an alternative that works well for straightforward rectangular showers. We discuss the options for your specific configuration.

What We Install

Bathroom tile work covers a range of surfaces, and we handle all of them:

  • Shower walls and ceilings
  • Shower floors and pans
  • Tub surrounds and tub decks
  • Bathroom floor tile
  • Vanity backsplashes
  • Built-in niches and shelves
  • Wet room and curbless shower floors

Niche installation is a detail that separates careful work from rushed work. A recessed niche in a shower wall needs to be waterproofed independently, sloped slightly forward to drain, and tiled with mitered corners or a tile trim piece that closes the edge cleanly. We take that extra time.

Serving Bathrooms Across the Hill Country

We install bathroom and shower tile in Cordillera Ranch, Boerne, and Fair Oaks Ranch. Homes in these communities range from newer builds with open-concept master suites to older properties with smaller bathrooms that require careful planning to tile well in a limited footprint.
