Herringbone Shower Tile in Cordillera Ranch
This walk-in shower in a Cordillera Ranch home was tiled in a 45-degree herringbone pattern using dark gray elongated porcelain tiles. Herringbone patterns require more precise layout than straight-set tile because the angled cuts at the perimeter need to be consistent and the pattern's center point must be established before the first tile is set.
The shower walls received a full sheet waterproofing membrane before tile was installed, with seam tape at all corners and transitions. The floor tile is a smaller format with a higher COF rating for wet-area slip resistance, set in a coordinating dark tone. Matte black fixtures and a round mirror vanity were selected by the homeowner to complement the tile's deep color.

What We Did
- Installed sheet waterproofing membrane on all shower walls and floor, sealing corners with fabric tape
- Established the herringbone layout centerline and dry-laid tiles to confirm the pattern before setting
- Set wall tiles in herringbone pattern using gray polymer-modified thinset
- Set floor tile in a coordinating small-format dark porcelain, grouted with matching sanded grout
Getting the herringbone pattern to land cleanly at the corners and ceiling line is the part that takes patience. The result reads as precise and intentional.
