Gray Bathroom Tile with Mosaic Accent in Fair Oaks Ranch

Two-tone gray bathroom wall tile with mosaic glass accent strip and freestanding tub in Fair Oaks Ranch

This bathroom in a Fair Oaks Ranch home was retiled with a two-tone gray wall tile scheme, using a lighter gray in the upper field and a darker gray in the lower field, separated by a horizontal mosaic glass accent strip. The accent strip requires careful planning because its height must be established before tile setting begins, and the course layout of both the upper and lower fields must work out to full or near-full tiles at the strip line.

The mosaic accent strip is mesh-mounted glass tile, which is set with white thinset to prevent color show-through and grouted with unsanded grout in a medium gray tone. The strip runs continuously around all four walls of the bathroom at the same height, which required careful measurement to keep the line level throughout.

What We Did

  1. Planned the accent strip height to land at a natural course line for both upper and lower tile fields
  2. Set lower field dark gray tile first, establishing the level base for the accent strip
  3. Set mesh-mounted mosaic accent strip using white thinset, aligning sheet seams carefully
  4. Set upper field light gray tile and grouted the full installation in matching gray unsanded grout

The accent strip is the kind of detail that takes planning to execute cleanly, but it adds a layer of visual interest that a single-tile bathroom does not have.
